Motivational axes
Motivational axes are the elements that create atmosphere and mood — light, color, music, costume, gesture, framing — making us feel without moving the plot.
While thematic axes advance the story, motivational ones dress it in emotion. Cinematography, score, art direction and performance build a climate the viewer perceives even when nothing is said.
Distinguishing the narrative cause from the audiovisual atmosphere avoids confusing what happens with what is felt, and sharpens any aesthetic analysis.

Cold bluish light, rain and slow music make you feel sadness even when no one says a word.
